Uttar Pradesh Gets Set to Increase DA by 4% for 15 Lakh Employees and 8 Lakh Pensioners Before Deepavali

What can be a Diwali bonus for the government employees in Uttar Pradesh is going to be declared 4 per cent Dearness Allowance (DA) hike. This hike imposed attempt of state government will extend to nearly 15 lakh government employees and 8 lakh pensioners in the state, in the face of rising inflation this is very much favourable to them all.

Diwali Gift Extended to Government Employees

The Uttar Pradesh government may disclose this shortly and smiles are set to light up the faces of lakhs of employees. An increase of 4% in DA shall be a relief for many at the right time as they prepare for Diwali celebrations.

Further, non gazetted employees are likely to be paid a bonus and the same will be calculated depending on their basic pay and DA. It is observed that the mean was around ₹7,000 in the previous year and it should rather be a marginal rise this year.

Overburdening of State Budgets

Even though DA up gradation will help the government employees in getting better salary, this increase will probably add ₹3,000 crore to the state’s financial expenses.

But the increase will only be effected after the central government has made a similar increment for its employees as the state decisions on DA normally mirror those of the central government.

Future of the Pay Commission

This is normally taken every ten years to deal with inflation and also realign government salary with commission pay. If as assumed, the 8th Pay Commission is likely to be implemented by 2026, the government employees may receive a raise of 20-35%, thus standardising the salaries at Level one at ₹34,560 while Level 18 at ₹4.8 lakh.

Central government’s DA announcement

Employees of the central government and upper tier of state governments are also expecting some sort of a notification regarding their DA rise. No hike has been effected for the July period, but it is reported that the DA for central employees would be raised between 3% to 4% soon and their basic wages also may be revised.
